Designing new traffi c pedestal for Mumbai city was an interesting urban design exercise, which was an inference of the extensive analysis of the practical and ergonomic problems cited in the existing traffi c pedestal design along with developing an innovative and aesthetic approach towards creating a comprehensive solution. Following remedial design strategies were incorporated in the design - A suitably sized canopy was provided along the periphery of the booth to protect the occupants from direct sun rays and rain. Increasing space inside the booth for the occupant. Provision of desk and lockable storage space. Booths to be artifi cially lit and ventilated. Permanent /collapsible steps for easy access. Booth well-equipped and designed for protection against attack. Integration of lamp post, tickers, traffi c signal and traffi c booth in a single design solution to avoid adhoc planning and design a modular product and drinking water facility.
