This design competition challenged our team to design bus-stops for Pune, the new found metro city in state of Maharashtra. Our role was to analyze and critique the existing bus stops and improvise on design considering the fast paced life of its people. The idea was to add functionality to design and reduce the overbranding and advertisements on the bus stops. Material selection was most crucial. We proposed a monolithic pre-cast concrete band as the main body of the bus stop, that is easy to install and cheap to construct due to its modular design. Also the bus stop was placed on an elevated island to add a feeling of security & discipline for the waiting passengers. Drinking water fountains, litter bins, information panels and telephone booths were installed on the island as social & urban amenities. We at Adytum, are the proud winners of this design competition!
